Citations: Welcome

For assistance with APA and MLA citation styles

Welcome

This guide covers MLA and APA citation styles. If you have questions or need additional assistance, you can visit the library, call us at (313) 845- 6377, or use the link on this page. If you would like to see the official style manuals for either of these styles, please visit the library's Reference Desk.

Why do I need to cite things?

While the term "plagiarism" is thrown around a lot, citing your sources correctly is just good practice and is designed to help fellow researchers to locate and learn from the sources you used. By writing a research paper, you are joining in on the conversation on a particular topic. Part of that conversation is showing that you are able to take concepts that have previously been discussed and add to them or discuss them in a new way, which is shown by your citations.
