HFC faculty, staff, and students may check out as many circulating items from the library's collection as they would like to be responsible for. Unreturned materials will be automatically billed for replacement after 28 days past an item's due date.

Guest users of the Library are limited to checking out 2 items at a time.

Library cards

If you are a current HFC student or employee and you would like an HFC library card, please bring your HFC photo ID to the library.  We will affix a library barcode sticker to the back of your HFC photo ID and that barcode will serve as your library card.

If you are a current HFC student but you do not have an HFC photo ID, we can issue you a library card with a barcode sticker.

If you are not an HFC student or employee but you live in the college district and would like a library card, please bring a current photo ID (Michigan driver's license or state ID) to the library and we will issue you a guest library card.

Library account / Renew items

Library account information can be found by clicking on "My CLARA Login" from within the library catalog.

With a CLARA login, library account holders can:

  • See how many items are checked out and when they are due
  • Renew items
  • Check the status of MeL (Michigan e-Library) requests

Returning items

Library materials may be returned at any time through the outside drop-box.

Materials may also be returned inside the library when the building is open.

Are there late fees if a library item is overdue?

The library does not charge late fees for materials that are returned past their due date.

Reminder notices are sent to a library user's HFC email address notifying them of items checked out and the date when materials are due. Notices are emailed at 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and 28 days past an item's original due date.

Library items kept 28 days past their original due date will be billed for replacement.

I'm not an HFC student. May I use the library?

Members of the public age 18 or older are welcome to use Eshleman Library facilities and resources on a walk-in basis.

By showing a Michigan state ID confirming their age and address, Henry Ford College district residents may receive a Guest library card to check out certain materials from the library. HFC district residency is defined as having your permanent residence located within the Dearborn Public Schools district.  Unsure whether you meet the requirements of district residency? By typing in your address on this website, the school district associated with your home address will be provided.

Not all library materials may be borrowed with a Guest library card, and Guest users are limited to borrowing two (2) circulating items. Licensing agreements prevent off-campus guest user access to the library's e-resource collections.
